Commercial Online Courses and Field Courses

Online courses are provided by commercial "providers" for many states. Be sure to go to your state agency website to determine what online courses are accepted in your state, including the IHEA-USA online course that is accepted in only a handful of states for certification purposes. (NOTe:  You can use the IHEA-USA as a 'practice' course or to gain hunter education information at any time since it is a free source.)

Types of Courses

Wildlife agencies and conservation organizations offer a variety of courses for hunters and trappers. Types of courses include basic hunter education, bowhunter education, blackpowder, trapper education, deer clinics turkey clinics, and waterfowl clinics.

The International Hunter Education Association-USA has developed standards for hunter education in cooperation with IHEA-USA partners and supporters.

Trapper Education

The content standards for trapper education courses in the Unites States are posted here. These standards were developed by trappers, biologists, and researchers working on "Best Management Practices" under guidance from the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies.
